Board of Health
The Board of Health functions under legal authority of the Health Protection and
Promotion Act and is responsible for ensuring KFL&A Public Health meets the
Mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines for public health programs and
services in specified areas. The Ministry of Health and Long-term Care for the Province
of Ontario develops these standards for public health programs, which reflect broad
aspirations for the health of all Ontarians. These mandatory programs aim to promote
health, prevent disease and injury, control threats to human life and function,
and facilitate social conditions to ensure an equal opportunity in attaining health
for all. The KFL&A Board of Health is instrumental in ensuring that all residents
of the KFL&A area have access to public health services.
