Programs and Services
A public health nurse is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except on statutory holidays) to answer questions on prenatal, infant and child care, includes preconceptional health, healthy pregnancies, postpartum mood disorders, breastfeeding, child growth and development, parenting, nutrition, and child safety. The public health nurse can link callers to different community services. Referrals can be made to a number of programs, including Healthy Babies, Healthy Children, Breastfeeding Buddies, and Take Control Baby Steps.
The City of Kingston's No Smoking By-law prohibits smoking in all enclosed public places and work places as well as a number of newly designated outdoor places. In November of 2012, the City of Kingston approved the addition of the following outdoor places to the number of designated public places where smoking is prohibited:
  • parks & beaches,sports fields & playgrounds,
  • outdoor community meeting areas,
  • within 3 metres of all entrances or exits of publicly accessible places and work places,
  • within 9 metres of entrances or exits of municipal buildings, and
  • within 9 metres of Kingston Transit shelters located at the Cataraqui Centre, Kingston Centre, and St. Lawrence College transfer points.

Through the Take Control program, KFL&A Public Health helps people become smoke-free through workplace support; employees who want to be smoke-free can have group sessions in their workplace. Call the Tobacco Information Line for more Information.
Whether you are planning a pregnancy, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have recently given birth, this program can help you and your family become tobacco-free. Free individual support from a public health nurse is offered, along with carbon monoxide breath testing and access to subsidized nicotine replacement therapy, while supplies last.
