Smoke-Free Housing Ontario helps landlords and property managers increase options for smoke-free living in multi-unit dwellings. Research shows the demand for smoke-free environments is on the rise. Ontarians are protected from second-hand smoke in virtually all enclosed workplaces and public places, yet many are exposed in their own homes as a result of smoke from neighbouring units. KFL&A Public Health enforces the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and municipal smoke-free bylaws in the KFL&A area. Our health promotion and enforcement staff conduct compliance checks with tobacco retailers to ensure the sale of tobacco products is limited to individuals over the age of 19, handle tobacco issues that relate to workplaces, and work with law enforcement agencies in the investigation of trafficking of contraband cigarettes in the KFL&A area.
