Programs and Services

Daycare Inspection Program
Public health inspectors from KFL&A Public Health’s Environmental Health and Communicable Disease Prevention programs inspect all licensed daycare operations in the KFL&A area. Public health inspectors work with daycare operators to ensure they follow safe food handling and infection control practices.

Menu Review
Public Health Dietitians from KFL&A Public Health are available to answer menu planning questions by calling Dial-a-Dietitian.
Private practice Registered Dietitians in the community may be available for formal menu reviews for a fee. Local Registered Dietitians can be found by visiting the Dietitians of Canada website at: www.dietitians.ca and clicking the “Find a Dietitian” link.

Planning Nutritious Menus Workshop
Presented by a public health dietitian and community food advisor, this workshop is for daycare staff who are involved in planning menus. Workshop attendees will:
  • learn how to plan nutritious menus according to the Day Nurseries Act,
  • sample a variety of child-friendly recipes,
  • receive sample menus prepared by participants,
  • receive a copy of “Planning Nutritious Menus: A comprehensive guide to planning a menu in a day nursery”.


This workshop is held twice each year. Call Dial-a-Dietitian to find out when the next workshop will be held. Cost: $10 per person
