Televisions, computers, and video games are a major part of everyday life. Studies
have shown that people, who limit their TV viewing to two hours a day or less, are
more likely to maintain a healthy body weight. The following strategies can help
you reduce the time you spend watching TV:
- keep track of your TV time in a log to see how much time you spend on screen, then
try to bring the amount of time down to less than two hours a day,
- take the TV out of bedrooms and keep computers in common areas,
- make a personal or family commitment to try a new activity each season,
- turn off the TV during family meals and turn on to talking about your day,
- get outside and play with your children-they will love your company and you will
set a great example for active living, and
- when you do watch TV, try an exercise or two during commercial breaks. This will
get your blood flowing and energize you.
