Tap Into Kingston

Tap Into Kingston Q&A

What is Tap Into Kingston?
KFL&A Public Health's Motiv8 initiative has identified a need in the community for an alternative to bottled drinks. In order to make this an easy choice people need accessible places in the community to go and fill their water bottles. A network of local businesses, convenience stores, grocery stores, restaurants, and cafes was created that lets people in the community fill their reusable water bottle with great tasting tap water. You can find their locations on the map here or by locating the Tap Into Kingston window cling displayed in participating partner windows.

Why was Tap Into Kingston created?
Tap Into Kingston was created to give on-the-go urbanites a real alternative to bottled drinks. Motiv8 is encouraging everyone to swap soft drinks or other sugary beverages for water and in doing so encourage them to refill reusable water bottles with great tasting tap water.

Tap Into Kingston is a practical solution to access water when away from home. Tap Into Kingston gives people in the community a free option for clean drinking water on-the-go.

What is the goal of Tap Into Kingston?
Our primary goal is to build a comprehensive network of partners across Kingston that allows neighbours and visitors to fill their reusable water bottle with tap water.

When did this initiative start?
Tap Into Kingston launched August 2010 in Kingston, Ontario.

Tap Into Kingston Partner Facts

Tap Into Kingston is making an accessible, free, healthy choice available in our community.

Commitment
You can leave the Tap Into Kingston network at any time if partnering doesn't work for you. We only ask that you send us an e-mail first so that we can remove you from the Tap Into Kingston map on the Motiv8 website.

Containers
Tap Into Kingston partners don't have to provide water containers. Members of the public fill-up their own water bottle.

Filtering
Some people prefer filtered water but unfiltered Kingston tap water is clean and safe. You can provide water that's filtered or unfiltered, as convenient.

Hours
Most Tap Into Kingston partners make water available during their normal business hours. You can, however, specify that you will provide water only at particular times.

Partnership Fees
You don't have to pay to join the Tap Into Kingston network. The benefits of this partnership are FREE!

Public Relations
Opening your business as a Tap Into Kingston partner may bring new customers into your store. Allowing customers to fill their water bottle is a generous thing to do and shows community pride and spirit. We believe customers will remember your generosity and return to your business in the future.

Publicity
Your name and location will show on the map found on the Motiv8 website.

Purchase Requirements
We prefer that you fill bottles without requiring purchases because we believe public members will return the favour. Your sales should grow as public members increase your foot traffic and join your customer base.

Service Fees
We encourage partners to provide tap water free of charge. You can promote awareness that water and service cost money by placing a "tips for tap water" jar on your counter.

Staff Support
Every member of your staff should know that your business belongs to the Tap Into Kingston network. Staff members should make water available to the public just as they do other products or services that you offer.

Water Coolers or Fountains
Giving public members access to your water coolers or fountains is a great way to take part.

Water Quality
Kingston tap water is clean and safe to drink right from the tap.

Water Temperature
You don't have to provide chilled water. Many people like to drink their water at room temperature.
